How to apply a social security number

A Social Security number is a nine-digit number issued to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and temporary residents. International students may obtain a Social Security Numbers (SSN) if they hold employment.

How to Apply for an SSN?

You can apply for the SSN at the nearest SSN office with the required documents below. Please use this locater to find the nearest SSN office from your place. MCC would like to recommend you to contact the office prior to your visit to make sure they provide social security number service at the office you choose. 

Required Documents

  • Most recent Active I-20 (with any type of work related authorization if it's off campus, CPT or OPT)
  • Valid passport & Visa
  • I-94 Form
  • Offer letter from your employer
