Entering the U.S.

Entering the U.S.

1. Arrange your travel to the U.S.

Please stay in close communication with your assigned counselor as you prepare for your arrival. You will need to bring the documents listed below to present at the U.S. Port of Entry. You may also refer to the attached 'Pre-Arrival Checklist' for detailed guidance.

  • Passport
  • F-1 visa
  • Original I-20 (no copies)
  • Other supporting documents, such as an acceptance letter or a bank statement.

*Please refer to the U.S. Department of State’s International Travel section for further resources.

2. Plan for your stay in Chicago

On-campus housing and school insurance are not mandatory at MCC. However, you may find your own housing and insurance. Please visit the International Student Services (ISS) website for resources, including information on housing, insurance, and more.

3. Prepare to attend orientation

Orientation is mandatory. Missing it may result in missing important information and opportunities. Also, don’t miss your chance to meet your classmates before classes begin! For reference, you can view previous orientation slides [here].
